I got this in my email telling me to check so i did and all i can say is.........CHECK IT OUT!

FREEBORD

If you wondering how the skate boarders in the video where doing all those spins. Well, the people and company behind the whole thing is FREEBORD. They are based in San Francisco and they run a really cool business selling these crazy 6-wheeled boards that ride down hills almost exactly like a snowboard.

The Company
Progression and innovation is what drives us. Through years of evolution and rider driven design, Freebord has engineered a setup that rides exactly like a snowboard on pavement.

Freebord was started in 1997 by Steen Strand in Palo Alto, CA, while studying for his master’s in product design at Stanford University. Steen wanted to find a way to bring the snowboard ride to the street, and began developing prototypes of a skateboard that could slide, drift and stop just like on snow. He patented his design and began assembling and selling the first “Alpha” Freebords in 1998 out of his garage in San Francisco, CA. Since then, Freebords have evolved to become shorter and lighter, with bindings to hold the rider’s feet while carving and sliding.

The Design
The deck of a Freebord resembles a large skateboard. Beneath the deck are four fixed wheels mounted on long trucks that extend beyond the board. These wheels simulate the edges of a snowboard and are used for carving. In addition to these four “edge” wheels, the Freebord has two additional base wheels on the board’s center line that rotate 360 degrees. These act like the base of a snowboard allowing riders to initiate slides in any direction, check their speed or stop just like they would on snow.

The Boards
Freebord offers 3 different series of boards in varying sizes, for riders of all weights and heights. Light, responsive and solid, each series is designed to be able to bomb the steeps with total control and stability while still being light enough for airs. All of Freebord’s decks come gripped and are made with 7-Ply, Canadian rock maple.

The Bindings
Freebord’s S2 half-bindings mount to the top of the deck providing increased edge control. The S2’s are rotationally and vertically adjustable with an injection molded upper and bent and stamped steel base. The S2’s provide superior edge control and complete customization of stance. They are required for all boards.

Model News: Jourdan Dunn Enjoys The Fashion Week Sidelines

Jourdan Dunn has a pretty good reason for not walking in London Fashion Week: She's pregnant with her first child, a son. Still, she took a front-row seat at shows for Topshop Unique and Issa, where she admitted she's liking her break.

"I’ve been watching a lot of daytime telly and eating a lot!" she said. "I thought I wouldn’t like sitting and watching, but now that I’m on the other side, I’m enjoying it . . . My mum keeps saying, Jourdan, the baby’s going to grow a lot, so don’t buy him expensive stuff. But I can’t help it! That baby Ralph Lauren stuff is so cute, I love it!"

Watching or on the runway, we're happy to see the model out and about. And we can't wait to see how gorgeous the baby will be!

 

 

Runway Report: Doo.Ri Spring 2010

 Doo-Ri Chung continues to be the fashion-loving woman's fashionista but as many designers lighted up their collections this season, Doo Ri Chung increased the hard-edge for spring 2010.

 

The first look—a quilted silk dress with sculpted shoulders—set the tone for a show that built upon Chung's signature draped jersey pieces by bulking up the fabrics with overlays of tulle and introducing thin chain details.

ARISE: AFRICAN PROMISE COLLECTIVE Spring 2010

 

 

Arise magazine held Arise Promise of Africa Collective Spring/Summer 2010 under the tent (FRI. SEP. 10
7 PM, Promenade). Four designers showcased their clothing to a packed crowd. Arise is a global magazine focusing on the achievements of Africans in the world of fashion, music, culture, business and politics. Quite a few attendees were wearing traditional African garb.

The four lines were Jewel by Lisa, Tiffany Amber, Eric Raisina and David Tlale.

THE ORIGIN OF PIECES 

• ERIC RAISINA, CAMBODIA “My collection, Honeymoon in Madagascar, explores the cultural richness of the island. I’ve reflected on my memories of these adventurous people – rich in experience and complete with colours, forms, textures, flavours and songs.”

• JEWEL BY LISA, NIGERIA “I’m inspired by the New York girl and her clean, unfussy nature. This collection fuses the style of Fifth Avenue with African heritage – tribal roots meet urban chic. I’m interested in fashion that exists in a place without boundaries.”

•  DAVID TLALE, SOUTH AFRICA “I’ve been inspired by the ostrich eggshell and the value it holds for African bushmen. My collection links their ancestry with luxurious textures, muted tones and clean, elegant silhouettes.”

• TIFFANY AMBER, NIGERIA “A rhapsody of yellow, 1970s glamour and Diana Ross in Mahogany all led me to this collection. I’ve also printed my fabric in collaboration with artist Kolade Oshinowo, which we’re both excited to showcase.”uettes.”

St. Vincent and the Grenadines Designers To Make NYC Debut.

 

 

Four independent designers from St. Vincent and the Grenadines are set to make a NY splash later this month.

The designers - Tamiko Brown, Shernicia Mayers, Kimon Baptiste and Karen De Freitas will show their Caribbean-inspired looks for the first time on US soil during Nolcha Fashion Week. The event is set for Wednesday, September 16th at the Bohemian National Hall at 321 E. 73rd Street in New York City.

Samantha Black, the Designer of SammyB Designs, graduated from the prestigious Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY in 2005 with a BFA in fashion design. 

While in school she interned for Jill Stuart and Michael Kors, after graduating Samantha moved to London for several months where she worked for Alexander McQueen in his design studio.

Chictopia Now : An interview with Helen Zhu

 

Not all fashion communities are created equal, and as a blogger, we hear about what seems to be a new style community popping up all the time. But Chictopia has steadily risen amongst the ranks gaining respect amongst the fashion community both on and offline. Admittedly, I resisted Chictopia as it was already difficult keeping up with my existing profiles, but after joining… I knew it was some place different. Instead of trying to fit in, Chictopia has features where I can find inspiration from people by my body type, age and or coloring. Not that I always look for those things in style, but it was nice to look around a site where there was lots of search capabilities. I also really love the Chictopia community which really has a great following.
