Arise magazine held Arise Promise of Africa Collective Spring/Summer 2010 under the tent (FRI. SEP. 10
7 PM, Promenade). Four designers showcased their clothing to a packed crowd. Arise is a global magazine focusing on the achievements of Africans in the world of fashion, music, culture, business and politics. Quite a few attendees were wearing traditional African garb.
THE ORIGIN OF PIECES
  • ERIC RAISINA, CAMBODIA “My collection, Honeymoon in Madagascar, explores the cultural richness of the island. I’ve reflected on my memories of these adventurous people – rich in experience and complete with colours, forms, textures, flavours and songs.”

  • JEWEL BY LISA, NIGERIA “I’m inspired by the New York girl and her clean, unfussy nature. This collection fuses the style of Fifth Avenue with African heritage – tribal roots meet urban chic. I’m interested in fashion that exists in a place without boundaries.”

  •  DAVID TLALE, SOUTH AFRICA “I’ve been inspired by the ostrich eggshell and the value it holds for African bushmen. My collection links their ancestry with luxurious textures, muted tones and clean, elegant silhouettes.”

  • TIFFANY AMBER, NIGERIA “A rhapsody of yellow, 1970s glamour and Diana Ross in Mahogany all led me to this collection. I’ve also printed my fabric in collaboration with artist Kolade Oshinowo, which we’re both excited to showcase.”uettes.”

 The "WORD"
  • Jewel by Lisa utilized traditional Ankara and batik prints to create ensembles that were chic and trendy. The collection held a "summer in the city" vibe and was compared to the quintessential city girl, Sarah Jessica Parker.

  • Tiffany Amber, a line done by Nigerian designer, Folake Folarin-Coker, held an air of summer sophistication with lush jewel tones and flowing fabric. Skirts were full, as well as sleeves. The fabric moved with the models almost with a life of its own. Sexy was done in an understated, elegant manner with side cutouts in a loose-fitting, long dress.

  • Eric Raisina presented Haute Textures. Eric is another lover of fabrics, though his were more organic and light. Dress after stunning dress hit the runway, delighting the audience with more of this Madagascan-born's creations.

  • David Tlale, a South African designer was all about textures. He was the only designer to have male clothing and it was every bit as stunning as the female. A stunning white dress stole the show with a dropped back that was lined with white tassels reaching almost to her thighs and swaying seductively with her every step. The tassels were used to call attention to the shoulders and lent a bit of military to the clothing.
The most impressive feat of all was the amount of Jamaican models who were a part of the presentation- Sigail Currie, Raschelle Osbourne, Gaye McDonald, Jeneil Williams, Sheena Moulton, Sosheba Griffiths and Trissan Holder all walked with the likes of Coco Rocha and Sessilee Lopez.
